That lifestyle is like a gamble — spending a large amount of money at once, then slowly recovering it over a year or two. While living this unstable life, I have to keep my mind in balance and continue creating good music. Sometimes, that “gambling life” weighs heavily on my heart. When I was feeling down and couldn’t get into the creative mode to write new songs, pianist Yu Taniguchi and Shinsuke Sasakura from Studio Tsuchi no Ue wo Aruku gently guided me into the world of piano improvisation. Playing without a set theme — simply letting my fingers move as they wished — became a way to calm kiss the gambler, who is always trying to stay bright amid tension and anxiety. It turned out to be the very method of “true relaxation” I had been searching for all along. It’s my first improvised work, with some mistakes and imperfections, but like a diary, it captures my feelings at that moment, and looking back now, I find it deeply fascinating. Later, I gave this piece the title “Raincaller frog.” The cover artwork was illustrated by one of my favorite manga artists, Tetsu Kayama.
